QGIS

QGIS, or "Q", or "Quantum GIS", is an open source GIS application that is available for most operating systems. QGIS is a C++ based GIS appication that allows most of the same features of ArcGIS and a few that ArcGIS does not support such as interfacing with popular database applications. QGIS can also access the functions available in the oldest existing GIS application, GRASS.

The appication has been popular outside the United States for some time and is now being used more heavily within the United States. QGIS is included with the OSGeoLive suite but you can also download it to your computer and use it there (as with most of the other open source software packages in OSGeoLive).
