Founders Hall has been the symbol of Humboldt State since it was built in 1922. At the time, all of Humboldt State Teacher's College was housed within its walls. Today, Founders Hall contains academic programs, including English, History, Politics, Geography, and Geology. The hall is still HSU’s most iconic building and can be seen in the university’s official seal.
Humboldt is no stranger to earthquakes, and HSU’s Department of Geology tracks seismic events at the Humboldt Earthquake Education Center, located in Van Matre Hall. The building also houses the offices for HSU's Information Technology Services, which provides internet and telecommunications to all of campus.
